The best place
Whisky bottles stand upright because long contact with high-strength spirit can damage cork. Choose a dark place with a steady room temperature.
Avoid windowsills, radiators and spaces that heat and cool sharply each day.
- Store bottles upright
- Avoid sun and temperature swings
- Watch nearly empty bottles
After opening
Whisky does not mature in glass, but extra air can slowly alter aroma. Reseal the bottle promptly after pouring.
For a small remainder, a clean smaller glass bottle may help. Add a date if you want to track change.

Sources, image makers, licences and methodology are brought together here. Wherever possible, Whisk(e)y Compare links bottle data and distillery status to producers, trade bodies and other primary sources. Scores describe flavour intensity, not quality.
